The Racetorations A-Type Roller Thrust “Stag” Steel Bushed Gearbox is the result of over 30 years of development and expertise in modifying TR gearboxes.
This gearbox includes the same concept found in the Triumph Stag gearboxes, a roller thrust at each each of the laygear. However, our gearboxes use all TR internals and a modern roller bearing rather than the original Stag item.
This gearbox includes a specially hardened layshaft, approximately twice the standard depth, and high-speed bearings that reduce point load on the lay-shaft. Steel bushes replace traditional brass versions, ensuring superior load resistance in modified cars. Competition-spec synchro rings are hand-toleranced into each unit.
The boxes have been used in TR Register championship-winning TR4s and TR6s as well as in our 230 BHP Talisman TR6 and many other TRs built to circa 200 BHP+. It serves as a direct replacement for standard gearboxes and is compatible with A-Type overdrives. See part number GER007 for gearbox and delivery options.
Our uprated gearbox clutch release kit (GER009) is fitted to all our gearboxes as standard, however we can install our hydraulic release bearing kit (GER101) which removes the mechanical release mechanism replacing it with hydraulic actuation which reduces driver fatigue when travelling long distances.
